It is argued by many critics that Act 3 Scene 5 is the most dramatic scene in the play Essay Example

It is argued by many critics that Act 3 Scene 5 is the most dramatic scene in the play Paper It is argued by many critics that Act 3 Scene 5 is the most dramatic scene in the play. How did Shakespeare utilise language and dramatic devices to highlight the dilemma facing Juliet at this crucial moment? The turmoil that Juliet faces in this scene is strengthened by the stage directions and language utilised by Shakespeare. It is imperative to explore the relationships in this essay connecting Juliet with her close circle of family and friends, who all reject her idealistic ideas on marriage as Juliets world deteriorates into a state of uncertainty. I will also explore the language and imagery, which is a focal point of this scenes analysis, as Shakespeares consciously crafted language ensures ironic windows are left open for his audience to peer through in order to see the plot before it happens. This scene highlights the anxiety and emotional pain of characters, such as Romeo and Juliet, and the rivalry of Paris for Juliets hand, along with the selfishness of the Nurse and Friar Lawrence, whose deceitful minds cast doubts upon the audience as to whose interests they are acting in, their own or Juliets? Upon setting her sights upon Romeo she instantly became love lost, and began to see the world through rose tinted glasses. Just as the modern world has horoscopes, fortune-tellers and palm readers and so forth, the people of the sixteen-century also looked towards the stars and the heavens above for guidance and advice. Having noted this, I would imply that in Act 1 Scene 3 lines 70 100, the ideals of marriage and love had been thrust into Juliets head. Therefore she goes to the feast with the knowledge that Paris will be looking to her for a show of affection and a Move in the right direction, so to speak. In addition to this, could Juliet be looking to find another suitor in order to make Paris jealous? In doing so could she have unintentionally lured Romeo into an uncomfortable emotional trap? Either way the unanswered questions leave the audience intrigued by the sequence of events, which provide a catalyst for what is to follow. During Act 3 scene 5, the emotional thoughts and feelings developed by Romeo and Juliet, are displayed and emphasised by Shakespeares use of stage direction and imagery. For example, lines 1 59 Nights candles are burnt out, and jocund day stands tiptoe on the misty mountain tops. This language highlights the maturity of Romeo who is the antithesis of Juliet. We are already aware that, she is younger than Romeo, however so far in the play we have seen quite a different character, I mean this in terms of actions and the choice of attitudes, which Shakespeare has cleverly included for us. Also, the reference to the light of day showing the safety and lack of awareness to the adjacent dark night, which illustrates the scarce amount of security and protection in and around the dark streets and alleys of Verona. Some people may not be open to the idea that the streets of a fairy tale can at all be compared to that of the modern day, however this highlights once again the public perception of the works of Shakespeare. Shakespeare intended to bring to his audience a sense of fantasy and fiction yet at the same time make them aware that the differences between the streets of London and Verona were not at all too dissimilar. After the young lovers night of passion where they finally gave in to their longing for one another, Juliet wishes for Romeo to stay a little while longer, despite the dangers due to his banishment, and this leads to Romeos teasing of Juliet and her naivety. In my opinion, Juliet is very impressionable at this stage in the play because I feel that she hangs on every statement made by the argued love of her life, this also shows that there is an age gap between the couple and that Romeo has a higher degree of maturity to Juliet. However no matter how serious the mood, the excitement of getting caught must have appealed to both of their desiring personalities; as in lines 37 63, Nurse: Your lady mother is coming to your chamber. The day is broke, be wary, look about. Juliet: Then window let day in, and let life out. Romeo: Farewell, farewell! One kiss, and Ill descend. This metaphor tells us that Juliet already at this early stage has an intuition, that it will be the last time that she will see Romeo in his true, original form. After so long apart they will both be different people with different lives. Romeo also talks lightly of death through the words farewell! and descend. When people die you give them their last farewell, and they descend (go down) into the earth and this is the last glimpse of your loved ones. Juliet: O god, I have and ill divining soul! Methinks I see thee now, thou art so low, As one dead in the bottom of a tomb. Either my eyesight fails, or thou lookst pale. Romeo: And trust me, love, ion my eye so do you: Dry sorrow drinks our blood. Adieu, adieu! the imagery and effect on the audience enables them to relate to the star crossed lovers pain and confusion as they have already heard of the lovers fate in the prologue. Juliet still returns to catch another glimpse of her beloved Romeo even though her mother is present at that moment in time. This impulsive act keeps the audience enthralled, as they are aware of the dangerous predicament she is faced with. Romeo: And trust me, love, ion my eye so do you: Dry sorrow drinks our blood. Adieu, adieu! Juliet: O Fortune, Fortune, all men call thee fickle; If thou art fickle, what dost thou with him That is renowned for faith? Be fickle, Fortune: For then I hope thou wilt not keep him long, But send him back. The audience can relate to these quotes as in the prologue they are made aware of the star crossed lovers future deaths and ultimate sorry fate. Romeo and Juliet make several references to death, including reunion with one another in the tomb and how Juliet will eventually look upon Romeos pale face, it could be that her vision is only a premonition, or is it? It is this sense of uncertainty that keeps the audience intrigued. Once again the movement about the stage, implied by Shakespeare allows the actors to conduct their performance in a more effective and natural manner. The idea of a balcony in Shakespeares theatre lets the audience to once more peer through a window into the lives of the Capulet family. In a similar way the speech made by Lady Capulet gives Juliet time to move between the balcony and the apron of the main stage. The employment of time and space creates an atmosphere full of emotion and irony, which is much appreciated by the audience. For example, lines 68 -110,Lady Capulet: That is because the traitor murderer lives. Juliet: Indeed I never shall be satisfied With Romeo, till I behold him dead Is my poor heart, so for a kinsman vexed. Madam, if you could find out but a man To bear poison, I would temper it, That Romeo should upon receipt thereof Soon sleep in quiet. O how my heart abhors To her him named and cannot come to love him, To wreak the love I bore my cousin Upon his body that hath slaughtered him! Lady Capulet is under the impression that her daughter with whom she frequently shows the unfamiliarity of their relationship, weeps for her cousin Tybalt, nevertheless the love lost which Juliet speaks of is for, Romeo, that information is only known to the informed spectators. These double meanings are frequently utilised by Shakespeare in order to create tension and effects for the audiences benefit. As previously mentioned, the relationship between Juliet and her mother, Lady Capulet, is built upon blood rather than mental recognition. I think that Juliet is there, as and when her mother summons for her. This is backed up by the lack of one to one contact and discussions between the two characters. Juliet seeks her mother figure in her Nurse. Obviously, Juliets mother was absent throughout most of her childs upbringing and childhood. What sort of psychological damage could this have caused Juliet to suffer? Juliet expects little from life; unlike her mother her expectations are quite low, seeing as she has fallen for the first male that she has laid her eyes on! It is hard to say whether or not she wants children, however she does not believe that social standing or financial stability is a necessity. Lady Capulet is a loyal wife who respects her marriage and follows out orders given from her over ruling husband. Juliet on the other hand is a new generation of females who wanted independence and therefore is not afraid to stand up to her father. In a way I believe that Lady Capulet envies this in the fresh new blood of her daughter and this enables the audience yet again to see the distance spread between the characters. Also the atmosphere created by the two characters when, very rarely, they are on stage together, might be possible to describe as to much of a much-ness. Simply meaning, that they are more simila r to each other than they would like to admit. Juliet is very much a young lady who refuses to allow her age to interfere with the childish attitude and emotion, which she frequently throughout the course of the play displays towards her father and consequently is able to wrap her father round her little finger, so to speak. Thus when her persuasive ideas run out, failing to make an slight impression, upon her fathers strong minded decision surrounding her arranged marriage to Paris during their argument, (lines 126 200) she felt lost and in new territory. Having witnessed this, she requires the assistance of Nurse, who steps in to the argument only to be pushed away with insults from her employer. In this scene Lord Capulet shows his intolerance to Juliets negligence to her duties as his daughter. Again the Capulet family shows how selfish they are through their disagreements and through Lord Capulets single mindedness. Apart from the fact that the Lord Capulet thinks that he has done the right thing by his only child, by Lord Capulet: How, will she none? doth she not count her blest, Unworthy as she is, that we have wrought So worthy a gentleman to be her bride? he is almost saying to her, that she would not be able to find a suitable bride of her own choosing, whether he is saying this out of spite or simply expressing his own views and opinions, he manages to purvey his own ideas. However this just makes Juliet older headed and more strong willed towards what she wants, but is what she ultimately gets going to be what she desires? This is another key point where Shakespeares techniques capture the audiences imagination, thoughts and feelings. The audience are also given the opportunity to put themselves in the place of Romeo and Juliet to reveal how they would cope in the situation. With the Nurse, being the closest character to Juliet, she is the first person that the troubled teenager turns to for comfort once all her family have deserted her. It later becomes apparent during lines 204 242 that Nurse, by caring for Juliet could actually be looking after herself Nurse: I think it best you married with the county O, hes a lovely gentleman! Romeos a dishclout to him. The Nurse shows her selfishness through her ability to sweet-talk Juliet into forgetting Romeo and her marriage to him, and to marry Paris. In spite of their close relationship, a gap is soon apparent, through Nurses inability to see through Juliets faà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ade, she falls for Juliets tales and actually believes that she will go through with the arranged marriage to Paris. Nurse contributes to Juliets confusion by changing her opinions to suit her own needs, or as she would have them hidden behind, Juliets needs. However the Nurses selfishness can be understood, by looking into the consequences that she would suffer from, if her employers were made aware of her part in this whole situation surrounding Juliets love interests. I agree that Act 3 scene 5 is the most dramatic scene in the play, and that Shakespeares utilisation of language and dramatic devices to highlight the dilemma facing the youngest Capulet holds great significance in preparing the audience for the death of Romeo and Juliet. At the end of this scene, Juliet turns to Friar Lawrence for reassurance and for a solution to her problems, seeing as her close circle of friends has forsaken her. Through the contribution of Shakespeares implied stage directions and use of imagery, the emotions and thoughts felt by Juliet are widely appreciated and developed, by audiences all over the world. During this scene, the young lover is deep in sorrow and turmoil. She accentuates the use of imagery, to show that she is vastly bewildered and in a predicament, which only she can get herself out of. Shakespeare shows how lost and alone she is and almost provides a monologue to the audience explaining her feelings of rejection and betrayal by Nurse and by her parents. Having looked at all the suggestions of blame and studying all the evidence within the scene. I believe that the real person responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet is Tybalt. I think this because, if he had not been the one seeking a fight and wishing death upon Romeo Montague, Mercutio would not have been slain. It is also worth noting here the point that when Mercutio was slain, he wished a plague on both your houses. Evidently Romeo would not have been seeking vengeance, and to draw blood from Tybalt therefore Romeo would not have been banished. Lord Capulet would not have seen reason to renegotiate with Paris as to his wedding to Juliet and would have let two more Summers pass before beginning discussions and possibly by that time Romeo and Juliets relationship may have been out in the open. Also nurse and Friar Lawrence would not have as bigger weight hanging above their heads. But most importantly, with Romeo by her side or at least still in Verona, Juliet would see no r eason to use a potion to freeze her body and fake death.

Non Competitive Market Examples Essays

Non Competitive Market Examples Essays Non Competitive Market Examples Paper Non Competitive Market Examples Paper This chapter covers what it is like for an industry to live in a non-competitive market. In this chapter it gives good examples of different types of industries that don’t have to worry about a competitive market. It begins off by express how in New York City, taxi drivers are restricted in number to how many can actually run a business. In order to do so, you have to have this medallion that authorizes you to have authority over the entity. Medallions have been sold as high as $175,000 back in the 1990’s and now can be sold as high as $250,000. This enables for no competition within the market itself. From there it goes on to explaining that as an industry or good, is limited in number, it hold a higher value and because of its low supply are able to charge at an extensively high price. The article elaborates that when the government is involved for whenever reason the system is always thrown off balance. However, the article also begins to illustrate on how government involvement is also set to protect the industries that are tying to compete in it. For example with the hair braiding business that were opening up the Californian government focused on ensuring that those who spent considerable time and effort in becoming licensed in cosmetology that they were the ones striving in the business not the unlicensed individuals. Yet, though state level is true, federally the government itself does not like competitive market. This is true when looking at the U. S. postal service vs. FedEx where Congress has issued anyone delivering first class by FedEx is mandated to a postage stamp tax. Overall, with all the many examples that are given in the chapter its main point is that a lot of business hate competitive markets and will try and do anything to beat out the competition in order for them to receive as much of the profits as possible. Based off of the examples that I have read, I feel that the one regarding the pricing on telecommunications is the most harmful of all. The reason being is that when by allowing such outrageous charges for connection charges and not allowing any new connections, you are essentially isolating the business itself. Making it virtually immovable from any angle and allowing for full control over the people within the industry. By not allowing any competition and charging at a rate of whatever you like, we essentially cause for an ultimatum in decision. Whether you pay an arm and a leg for the service or you don’t have it. If both methods were to work in successfully knocking out the competition essentially you wouldn’t see a difference in the method. In the end you are still knocking out your competition and charging it at your desired price. Whether that means that you lower your prices, to a designated amount at which you are still probably making a profit or raising the difficulty for others. All in all the most important factor about these two methods is that it dens work and it does knock out the competition.

Working with and Leading People Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words - 1

Working with and Leading People - Essay Example Leigh & Maynard (1996) highlights that Jamie selectors’ prior step of this recruitment process involved requesting applicants to talk about food while they were filmed. This established each applicant’s passion about food and whether they were willing to talk about food publicly. Having shortlisted sixty applicants, they were now expected to adequately describe the tastes of various foods. The applicants were given butternut squash ravioli and tempura fried oyster and had to describe the texture and flavor of what they had eaten. The ability of the applicant to effectively describe the taste of the food meant that he or she would be able to express the self-sensory encounter effectively. The 30 selected applicants were required to observe the procedure of preparing a simple meal then repeat the same procedure in preparing the same meal. At this stage, Jamie tested the level of observation an individual would attain. Jamie selectors interrogated the applicants as they prepared the fried salmon and vegetable meal and hence scrutinizing the manner and methodology in which they prepared it. Fifteen applicants were finally selected in accordance to their strategy to the task and standards of the prepared meal. Jamie Oliver decided to get involved in the training process of the recruited trainees. The trainees were sent to college to learn basic skills, and then as they continued with the training, Oliver began to train and shape the candidates to meet the needs, style and standards of the restaurant. The training involved class attendance, demonstration and practical activities. The training was faced with major challenges as some of the trainees found the work and mental effort involved in this work overwhelming and became demotivated and hence stopped attending the college (Leigh, Maynard, 1996). Jamie Oliver remunerated the trainees by paying their travel charges and even physically went to see them at their apartments to know their whereabouts

Research, identify and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of Essay

Research, identify and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of business regulations - Essay Example Regulations are good in the way that they provide a particular direction for businesses to follow. Rules and regulations actually help standardize the business operations as all workers and businesses will follow a particular set of instructions which are applicable to them. On the other hand regulations are also important as some businesses do not self-regulate themselves and can therefore be involved in actions which are harmful to the society. For example if restrictions are not imposed on the emission of factories then many companies might not care about the negative effect of emissions from factories ad may continue to do so in order to save costs of safe emission systems. When regulations are made and implemented, then these companies are bound to follow it otherwise they’ll have to bear the consequences in form of penalty such are monetary fines or closure of business. Therefore, regulation is one form of ensuring that the business doesn’t harm the society. (Porket, 2003) Moreover, regulations are also important in protecting the rights of the employees as without regulations, employers may exploit the employees through bad working conditions or low wages etc. Due to this government tend to make regulations regarding minimum wealth, health and safety conditions. Regulations also help in preventing exploitation of consumers. If there are no regulations, then monopolies would exploit consumers with high prices, companies won’t produce goods with quality standards and might not mention the harmful effects of using a particular product if proper regulations are not in place. Therefore regulations are beneficial as many businesses don’t tend to self-regulate them. (Porket, 2003) Along with advantages, there are also some drawbacks of regulations. These include the costs of complying with these regulations. Regulations which are

Planning task - Essay Example Ask students to think about how the early Egyptians computed for the dimensions and what kind of measuring units they used. The Base Area depends on the shape, there are different formulas for triangle, square, etc. But the Lateral Area is surprisingly simple. Just multiply the perimeter by the side length and divide by 2. This is because the sides are always triangles and the triangle formula is base times height divided by 2 Education today has undergone various transformations from days of old. Schools at present may have similar goals of optimizing students’ learning and maximizing their potentials but may have differing philosophies, approaches and educational strategies in fulfilling these goals. â€Å"Predictably, the traditional teacher-centered model in which knowledge is â€Å"transmitted† from teacher to learner is rapidly being replaced by alternative models of instruction (e.g., learner-centered, constructivist, and sociocultural ideas) in which the emphasis is on guiding and supporting students as they learn to construct their understanding of the culture and communities of which they are a part (Brown et al., 1993; Brown, Collins, & Duguid, 1989; Cobb, 1994; Collins, 1990; Duffy & Cunningham, 1996; Pea, 1993). The Difference Between Walmart And Procter Gamble Information Technology Essay

The Difference Between Walmart And Procter Gamble Information Technology Essay In late 1980s, Procter Gamble, the manufacturer and Wal-Mart, the distributor started to practice vendor managed inventory (VMI) partnership. Their success on increasing efficiency of supply chain immediately trumpeted other organization like Campbell Soup, Johnson Johnson, Glaxosmithkline ¼Ã…’Electrolux Italia ¼Ã…’Nestle and Tesco, and also Boeing and Alcoa, to apply VMI approach. VMI is a business model which is first implemented and common among grocery industry. Vendor or supplier usually refers to manufacturer. Instead of having the customers, often distributors, to place order to vendors,, as in traditional replenishment process, VMI created a value added service in which vendors have full responsibility on maintaining agreed level of inventories for distributors. Through VMI software, manufacturers either able to monitor and access distributors actual inventory level, or distributors will send sales and inventory data via Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) or internet on pre-arrange schedule, typically on daily basis. Manufacturers then make resupply decisions regarding order quantities, timing, and shipping based on mutually agreed stock levels, fill rates, and transaction costs. Yes, the researcher agreed that VMI provides significant benefits to an organization. Therefore, exploring the benefits arise from implementation of VMI, would be the next focus for this paper. The paper also objectives to examine the disadvantages involved in the application of VMI for both distributors and manufacturers. 2.0 : VENDOR MANAGED INVENTORY Advantages The advantages were introduced in terms of manufacturers, distributors, not to forget dual benefits. 2.1.1 For manufacturers Increased productivity More efficient own inventory control Increased customer relationship Improved market analysis Increased sales Cost reduction VMI Benefits for Manufacturers Figure 1: VMI Benefits for Manufacturers Source: The Researcher Cost reduction Administration cost, operating cost, transportation cost and many more are decreased because of lesser order problem like bad data, and decreasing unexpected order. Increased sales This is the quickest advantage as sales could be rise to 5-25%. This mainly due to increased sales of their customers, contributed by lesser stock out problems, together with improved product mix, as a result of better demand visibility. Market share also increased because distributors could experience lower cost, greater profitability, and improved service from manufacturers. Another factor is better collaborative planning for special sales such as promotion. Improved market analysis More frequent and direct communication allowed better insight in customer demand. This enables easier market analysis and created opportunities to provide other value added services. Increased customer relationship Manufacturers secured its customers by providing continuous supply, avoiding out of stock problems. VMI also assured long term relationship together with steady and predictable income as long as manufacturers still carrying the task of maintaining a predetermined stock for its customers, often a distributor. More efficient own inventory control With the ability to monitor and keep track its customers actual sales and inventory, manufacturers able to forecast demand, hence better plan and control its own inventory, for instance, keeping just enough stock for manufacturing and resupply for its customer. Increased communication also allows promotion to be easily incorporated into inventory plan. Increased productivity Manufacturers productivity is increased because monitoring customers stock regularly enable manufacturers to control its own inventory more efficiently, thus manufacturing operations could be schedule more productively. 2.1.2 For distributors Improved service Increased sales Cost saving Lesser stock-out Lower inventory level VMI Benefits for Manufacturers Figure 2: VMI Benefits for Distributors Source: The Researcher Lower inventory level Manufacturers have greater responsibility to ensure availability of inventories, by ordering replenishment when inventories fall below order point. Frequent review of inventories and demand information enable manufacturers to more accurately control lead time component of order point calculations, hence reducing safety stock. Lesser stock-out or shortage The theory and reasons is just the same as for reducing safety stock and inventory level, which is automatic replenishment by supplier before stock-out, and better order calculation due to increased visibility of actual demand. Having manufacturers to monitor its own items also allows better respond to unexpected demand compared to typical distributors managing bulks of items from different manufacturers. Cost saving Administration cost is reduced. Since manufacturers in charge of stock replenishment, the cost involves for managing replenishment, generating purchase order and other administration task is eliminated. Distributors will then require lesser time and effort in ordering. Cost involved in bad or wrong order is eliminated too. VMI also decreased cost of carrying stock. Increased sales VMI leads to fewer out-of-stock situations. This simply means higher sales, as lesser sales opportunities are lost, and customer loyalty is improved. Increased visibility in demand ensured the right products always available at right time and right place. Frequent communication also allow better collaborations with suppliers in planning for new product introduction, promotions, and exceptional demand, allowing distributors to enjoy full advantage of special sales opportunities. Improved service Having correct items at correct moment improved overall service level. Manufacturers practicing VMI also keen to provide better service to distributors. 2.1.3 Dual Benefits In addition to the above advantages, both manufacturers and distributors benefit from shortening of supply chain. Human data entry errors were avoided through computer to computer communication, which also improve processing speed. Next, overhead is lowered due to automated VMI. Another consequence would be stronger ties and true partnership between manufacturers and distributors. Furthermore, timing of purchase orders was stabilized on a predefined basis, for example once weekly purchase order cycle. Disadvantages The researcher also identified some disadvantages. Firstly, manufacturers might need additional effort and cost to undertake resupply activities which is previously carried out by distributors themselves. Therefore, manufacturers must guaranteed substantial amount of gross profit and sales to cover those extra expenses. Secondly, since distributors are excluded from forecasting demand, inaccurate forecast might occur. In terms of distributors, dependency on single source of supply gives disadvantages when suppliers unable to meet its commitment. Distributors also faced potential in losing confidential information since manufacturers are given access to its data. There is also possibility of job losing as replenishment tasks are transferred back to manufacturers. Implementing VMI also means distributors unable to enjoy bulk purchase discount, promotion, and forward buying. Another risk is that lacking of advanced information technology could results in outdated and incorrect information sharing. Besides cost of technology, application of VMI also involved cost of training and changing organization. Moreover, the success of VMI is hugely determined by the strength of relationship between manufacturers and distributors. For instance, lack of trust in data exchange could leads to ineffective implementation, including inventory invisibility and inventory imbalance. Since VMI increased dependency on both parties, switching cost is raised and these created difficulties in switching. Flexibility is loss through VMI because special events or promotions required beforehand communication in order to eliminate replenishment mistake. The next concern is that VMI which encouraged lower inventory contributed to loss of shelf space at distributors selling area. This decreases attention of their buyers, hence market share are loss. However, they are ways to overcome these disadvantages. Take the above example, shelf space could be filled with other items from same vendor. Furthermore, achieving mutual agreement before applying VMI would creates mutual trust, therefore strengthens relationship and partnership between manufacturers and distributors, thus better price and transaction, resulted in better service to the end customers, which will then generate significant benefits for both parties. 3.0 : CONCLUSION Procter Gamble and Wal-Mart appears to be the pioneer and master of VMI, a supply chain practice which is popularized among grocery industry since late 1980s. As oppose to traditional business model where distributors initiate purchasing order, buying decision in VMI are shifted back to vendors, often manufacturers. This is an automated process where manufacturers automatically make resupply decision, ensuring certain amount of stock is available for distributors to meet consumer demand. Manufacturers are given access to real-time sales and inventory level, where electronic data will be sent by distributors to manufacturers through EDI or internet. Under VMI partnership, both manufacturer and distributor are bound by agreement which determines information like inventory level, refill rates, cost, and shipping. The researcher agreed that VMI created numerous advantages for both manufacturers and distributors. Examples include increased sales, cost reduction, lower inventory level, lesser stock-out, improved service, improved productivity, improved market analysis, shortening of supply chain, improved processing speed, stronger partnership and many more. Nevertheless, VMI have disadvantages too. These incorporate additional effort and cost for manufacturers, inaccurate demand forecast, dependency on single source of supply, loss of confidential information, loss of job, loss of purchase discount, outdated and incorrect information sharing due to lacking of advance technology, cost of training, changing organization, increased dependency, increased switching cost, loss of flexibility, loss of shelf space, and loss of market share. As conclusion, the researcher recognized that VMI could be structured properly in order to maximize its advantages and minimize its disadvantages. To illustrate, good flow of information is key to success in VMI application. Thus, it is necessary to allow information sharing by ensuring an open communication channel. Implementing a well-structured VMI also required good understanding of VMI as well as training of staff. Other measures to avoid VMI failure includes clarify expectation, and achieve an agreement between manufacturers and distributors regarding factors such as lead time, cost, and information sharing.

For the Love of Art Essay -- Artist Paintings Essays

For the Love of Art What is art? Would music, paintings, movies, dance, and speech all be considered art? What type, style or quality is required for these to be deemed art? These are wonderful questions. Many have tried to define for themselves and others what the correct answers are. The questions are wonderful, because, I believe they have no correct answers. I find the questions enlightening because there is no right or wrong. This is freeing. If one can’t be proven right, then how can one be proven wrong? The picture of the Virgin Mary on a ham sandwich that sold on Ebay, it that art? I don’t think the price or medium should be a factor. Van Gogh sold not one painting in his life time, yet only the wealthiest people in the world today could afford his work that has sold for millions at auction. I believe Van Gogh to be a great artist, not Hormel. Could we say art is in the eye of the beholder? A four year old that â€Å"paints† abstracts has taken the art world by storm, an elephant that paints with his trunk, a computer generated interactive music machine, ok. The eye of the beholder. The prerequisite for art to be considered art is on the receiving side. I think it a human quality to admire or be affected by art. Like the tree that falls in the forest, is a painting art if nobody sees it? In an article written by Elaine Thornburgh and Jack Logan, they discuss the quality that all great art has, the ability to transcend time and place. I have my own feelings about what should be considered art, and it is just that, my feeling. Art moves, inspires, disgusts, disturbs or touches us in some way. It may change us, it may not. There is one thing that would discount what I consider art. If I am indi... ...nstruments, they all have an affect. Music has the ability to strike chords inside our soul. I hear Chopin I am physically altered. How does that happen? How can an organization of notes affect a human being in such a way? I am waiting for the study to come out. The one that explains exactly why these emotions are driven up from classical music and other artistic forms. The one that reduces my experience to synapses. The one that explains the tone quality and particular note arrangement in relation to brain waves and reaction times. The combination of strings and horns or color and line that trigger a specific reaction. I am waiting for the scientific study so I can seek it out and make sure that I don’t read any part of it. I like being moved, inspired, disgusted, disturbed and touched by art. I love the mystery of it all.. It makes me feel alive.
